The CA Foundation Course, the entry-level exam for aspiring chartered accountants under ICAI, includes four papers totaling 400 marks. Candidates can register after Class X and take the exam after Class XII. Exams are held in January, May, and September. Registration is online and valid for three years. Graduates and post-graduates are exempt, with direct enrollment in CA Intermediate available for commerce graduates with 55% and other graduates with 60% marks.
CA Intermediate is the second level exam in India's Chartered Accountancy course. It includes six subjects and requires extensive study over a nine-month period. The exam's difficulty is amplified by its group system, where each group comprises three subjects, all of which must be passed together. Historically, the passing rates have been low, averaging 16.76%, with a record low of 8.88% in November 2018. This underscores the rigorous preparation needed to succeed in the exam.
The CA Final is the concluding phase of the Chartered Accountancy journey. It consists of two groups: Group I with three core papers, and Group II with two core papers and one elective. Before taking the exam, students must complete a 2-year articleship under a practicing Chartered Accountant and a four-week AICITSS course. Upon passing both groups with a minimum of 40% in each subject and 50% overall, they become eligible to join ICAI as a Chartered Accountant.
